Wynnstay Carp Fishery is located in North Wales near Wrexham, close to the borders of Shropshire, Cheshire and Clwyd. Set within the historic grounds of the well-known Wynnstay Hall estate, the lake lies deep in unspoilt countryside and offers anglers a peaceful and secluded setting surrounded by mature woodland and parkland.
The fishery centres around a 10-acre lake originally designed more than 230 years ago by landscape designer Richard Woods as part of the landscaped estate grounds. Over time the lake has matured into a high-quality coarse fishery and is now recognised locally as a well-established carp water.
The lake features reed-lined margins and a large central island, creating a natural environment that provides excellent habitat and cover for the fish. Wynnstay Carp Fishery specialises primarily in carp fishing, with a strong head of grass carp, common carp, mirror carp and leather carp present in the water. In addition to the carp stocks, anglers can also target quality bream and tench, adding variety to the fishery and providing opportunities for mixed coarse fishing.
Fishing at Wynnstay Carp Fishery is members only, helping maintain the quiet atmosphere and ensuring the lake is carefully managed for the benefit of both anglers and the fish stocks. The club periodically opens a waiting list for new members.
At present, applications for the 2026–2027 waiting list are being accepted, and anglers interested in joining can submit their details through the club’s website.
