Port Sunlight Angling Club is a long-established fishing club based on the Wirral Peninsula in Merseyside, providing members with access to a wide range of waters across the North West of England and North Wales. The club has been part of the region’s angling community for many decades and continues to offer varied fishing opportunities for anglers of all ages and experience levels.
The club was originally founded in 1947 by employees of the Lever Brothers soap factory at Port Sunlight. In its early years the club was supported by the Leverhulme family, with several of its first fishing waters on the Wirral gifted by the late Lord Leverhulme. Since then the club has steadily expanded and now manages a diverse portfolio of fisheries for its members.
Today the club controls 14 well-maintained and regularly stocked pools, along with its own stretches of the Shropshire Union Canal and the River Weaver Navigation. Through a number of affiliations with other angling associations, members can also access additional waters including several miles of the River Dee, sections of the Llangollen and Montgomery Canals, and extended stretches of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal.
Fishing is members only, with membership running annually from 1 April to 31 March. The club offers several categories including Adult, Young Person and Junior memberships, as well as a Non-Fishing membership for family members accompanying anglers. A separate Canal Permit, available for £15, allows anglers to fish the club’s canal and River Weaver stretches for twelve months from the date of purchase.
Across its waters anglers can expect to catch a variety of species including carp, bream, tench, roach, rudd, perch and pike, providing opportunities for both pleasure fishing and more targeted specimen angling throughout the year.
