Chirk Trout Fishery is located near the town of Chirk on the Welsh–English border, close to Wrexham and Oswestry. Set within peaceful countryside and surrounded by natural woodland and farmland, the fishery offers anglers a relaxing setting in which to enjoy trout fishing in North East Wales.
The fishery covers an area of around 2½ acres and is made up of two fly fishing lakes along with a separate bait pool designed for younger anglers and beginners. The lakes are carefully managed and regularly stocked, ensuring consistent fishing throughout the season while maintaining a healthy and varied stock of trout.
Both fly lakes are stocked with a range of species including rainbow trout, brown trout, brook trout, golden trout, blue trout and tiger trout. This variety gives anglers the opportunity to target different types of trout while enjoying traditional fly fishing in well-maintained waters. The regular stocking programme helps ensure there are always fish available, making the lakes suitable for anglers of varying experience levels.
Running through the fishery is the River Ceiriog, a tributary of the River Dee, which adds another dimension to the venue. This stretch of river is stocked with brown trout and can be fished on a fly-only basis with a day ticket, offering a more natural river fishing experience alongside the stillwater lakes.
With its combination of fly lakes, river fishing and a dedicated bait pool for children, Chirk Trout Fishery is suitable for experienced fly anglers as well as beginners and families looking to try trout fishing for the first time.
